THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
The 72nd National Day of Prayer (NDP) will be recognized on Thursday, May 2, 2024. The bill was initiated on April 17, 1952 and signed into law by President Truman.
The President shall set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.
On May 5, 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed a law designating the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer.
Civic Responsibility
The Bible states: I Tim. 2:1-2– I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
It is the responsibility of citizens of this nation especially Christians to pray for this nation and its leaders. As citizens we have enjoy the God given freedoms, of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness but we have taken them for granted. For approximately 247 years Americans have experienced the blessings of God but because of prayerlessness we have seen a steady erosion of the freedoms. The national vision has been inscribed on the Liberty Bell in 1752:
National Vision
Leviticus 25:10– And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family.
Many people from other nations are coming to this nation to pray especially for the 2024 elections. We deeply appreciate these people coming to the U.S. to pray! But it is our responsibility to pray for our country. We must pray that the Holy Spirit restores the vision of liberty to the inhabitants of this land. Otherwise as other great nations fell so it will happen to the United States:
Proverbs 29:18– Where there is no prophetic vision, the people cast off all restraint but happy is he who keeps the law.
So we at Ask Jesus Now encourages you to gather with other Christians on the NDP and pray for this nation, its leaders, and the upcoming elections. Then, Our Heavenly Father “..I will hear from heaven, I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.” (2Chron. 7:14).
