Press On In The WORD [Faith Race 10.17.2020]
Called to Shine in the Light
As believers in Jesus Christ, we were prompted by the Holy Spirit to turn from darkness and come into the light, and in so doing to have God’s redemptive work of salvation displayed in our lives (John 3:19-21).
And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and blameless, and above reproach in His sight- if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven. Colossians 1:21-23.
It is written that we are to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling- as we run our race of faith (Hebrews 12:1-2)- for it is God who works in His children to both will and to do for His good pleasure…that you may become blameless and harmless children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world (Philippians 2:12-15).
It is written: Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Christ is in you?- unless indeed you are disqualified. 2 Corinthians 13:5.
Called to Follow the Light
As it is written: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world, He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of light.” John 8:12 .
For this reason we…do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God…giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. Colossians 1:9-10,12.
To follow the Lord Jesus by faith in the light, calls for a connected relationship to function as the head and the body. It is written: And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have preeminence. Colossians 1:18.
To heed the call of Jesus to follow in the light, we must recognize Jesus as Lord, and be obedient as the body obeys the head, for the body cannot function without the head. Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 1Corinthians 12:27.
Faith Challenged in the Light
Following the Lord will test our faith in the light, especially when He leads us in the path of righteousness that exposes our mortality. Like the instance when Jesus went to Judea to raise Lazarus from the dead and He told His disciples that they were going to Judea again.
The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, are You going there again?” Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in a day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles because the light is not in him.” John 11:8-10.
Encouragement in the Light
Be of good courage, for it is written…The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:1,3b,4.
Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. John 10:27-28.
We must continue to examine and mature in the faith for God’s good pleasure, for it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6). In the course of running the race set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), we are to follow His lead by the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth, shows us things to come, and declares to us that which is of Christ Jesus (John 16:13-14).
Walk as Children of the Light
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children…For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. Ephesians 5:8-10.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen. Jude 23-25.
Praise, Bless, and Please the Lord!
