Who is the Most High God?   Luke 1:31-32, 35 say “And behold you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son and shall call His name Jesus.  He will be called the Son of the Highest…  And the angel answered and said to her, the Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Highest will overshadow you…”   This term was immediately related to Jesus and the Holy Spirit as it pertains to Christmas and the gift that God the Father gave to mankind on that Christmas night.  The term the Most High God (El Elyon in Hebrew); in Genesis 14:18-22 it is mentioned 4 times.  In these verses the Most High God is called “the possessor of heaven and earth” and is the God who delivers His people from their enemies.  It is very important to note that in verse 19 it says “Blessed be Abram of God Most High”.  Abram was given the greatest gift anyone could have, he belonged to the Most High God and was given tremendous promises.

Throughout the Scriptures the name Most High God is used and one of the most commonly read and prayed Scriptures is Psalm 91.  This Psalm is used frequently for God’s protection of His people but there are so many other truths in this passage.  Psalm 91:1-2 says “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty, I will say of the Lord He is my refuge, my fortress, My God in Him I will trust”.  This is a direct connection with the previous Scriptures in Genesis 14.  Because we (=Christians) have accepted Christ, the Son of the Most High, we are blessed with the blessings of Abraham.  Many of those blessings are found in Psalm 91 such as protection, provision, restoration, but above all a relationship with the Most High God through Jesus Christ.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ let us remember that He is the only reason why we celebrate Christmas continually.  Somehow in this modern world that we live in we have become preoccupied with everything else which is very deceptive.  When children become preoccupied with Santa Claus rather than Jesus the focus on the Truth is set aside for a deception.  The idea of Santa Claus can never fulfill the spiritual hunger and thirst that we have for Him.    He is the only One who can give us what we need in order to live meaningful and purposeful lives.  He is the only true and living God worthy of our worship.  So this Christmas, we at Ask Jesus Now, encourage those who read this message to set aside everything else including Santa Claus and give your attention to Him and make room in your heart for Him.  It will be the beginning of a new and exciting life with Him.  Remember He is the Most High God and He rules heaven and earth and He wants to be enthroned in your heart.
