Looking back at the 2018 Christmas season, God reminded me that the celebration of Christ’s birth (Luke 2:4-20) is not just historical but is eternal. At the right time, Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem for the birth of Christ, but when they went to look for a place for the birth of Jesus, the man at the inn told them there was no place for them. As a result Jesus was born in a stable in a manger (no razzle or dazzle, no glimmer or glamor). No one ever expected the Messiah to be born in such humble surroundings but rather with much fanfare. For the Christian church there are very important lessons to learn from this. Believers should never look to the world’s system and organized religion to make room for them. As God Himself made room for Jesus at His birth so God will make room for His people to be a light and witness to Him in unexpected places from garages, prisons, warehouses to governmental offices, businesses, media outlets, and educational facilities. Even as Jesus was born in an unexpected place, a manger, the Lord will send His people to unexpected places and many people will be born again. Also, no believer should be concerned about any human limitations they may have. The gifts He has imparted to His people such as wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, working of miracles as well as talents, skills, abilities, will make room for them. The Lord will bring great men to His people with gifts even as He brought kings and their gifts to Jesus. The gifts are for the plans and purposes of God to be accomplished.
Many people like the shepherds in the field will faithfully be doing what God has equipped them to do in life and they will be called to partner with God to witness His mighty works. He will bring believers that are of one heart and one mind to minister life to those that don’t know Him. Entire households will come to know Him through these divine connections. Therefore do as Isaiah 54:2-3 says, “enlarge the place of your tent, let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left…..” God’s people must have great expectation in 2019 because like the angels declared when Jesus was born, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” it is still His will for men on earth. Celebrate Jesus’ birth every day and receive His life that He gave for you. Amen
